Handmade in Rwanda. Woven with 100% natural sisal.
Sisal bowls are beautiful baskets handwoven with natural materials. These Rwandan baskets are much more than just decorative items; they are versatile home décor accessories that can be used in various ways: such as being hung as wall art, arranged in a cluster for a dramatic ethnic display, used as center-pieces on tables, or even as decorative bowls to hold fruit or other items. Each basket has a loop on the back, making it easy to hang on a wall. Create your own wall art by selecting a collection to display in any space.
Rwandan handwoven baskets / sisal bowls are well known for their intricate geometric patterns now modernised in vibrant colours. Skilled Rwandan artisans, predominantly women, traditionally hand weave these baskets using sustainable natural materials like sisal fibres, sweetgrass, banana leaves, and raffia, often dyed with natural pigments from tree bark, roots, and flowers. The inside of the coils consists of native grasses.
Sisal fiber is then finely stitched on the outside of the coil.
Cultural significance:
In Rwanda, “the land of a thousand hills”, weavers from many tribes create sisal bowl baskets as symbols of peace, reconciliation, self- reliance and hope. Purchase of these baskets helps Rwandan women to feed and educate their children and gain access to healthcare, promoting sustainable living throughout the region. Rwandan sisal baskets represent a rich history of Rwandan traditions and cultural significance.
